Kitchen Utensil Must Haves
By
Daniel Kraus

Every kitchen needs utensils and tools to complete a well prepared meal. There are a variety of tools and specialty equipment available to the consumer and professional chef, but there are a few no kitchen should be without. The most needed piece of equipment in a kitchen has got to be a knife sharpener. While some people use the old knife sharpening stone, we prefer the Chicago Cutlery hand held sharpener. It is ergonomically designed to provide easier use and comfortable handling. The tool allows a chef or cook to sharpen the knife simply by pulling it through 2 angled sharpening stones set into the tool. Quick and easy, and you don't need to be concerned with the angle of sharpening as the tool does all the work for you.

No kitchen would be complete without a set of measuring spoons; after all you can't prepare a recipe without the proper amounts of ingredients. World Cuisine produces a beautiful stainless steel set of measuring spoons containing 1 tablespoon, and 1, ½, and ¼ teaspoons. The stainless steel construction provides you with durability and is simple to clean. All of these spoons can be used for dry ingredients like baking soda or liquid ingredients such as olive oil or vanilla extract. All of the measuring spoons are held together on a simple ring so you don't lose any accidentally.

Slicers can be found for general use or for specified foods. An egg slicer is probably the most common of these and is essential for preparing hard boiled eggs for salads. A quick simple push of the slicer creates perfectly sliced eggs for any use. You can slice once and turn the egg sideways to produce diced portions of egg as well. Another very useful slicer is the mushroom slicer from World Cuisine; it doubles as a fruit slicer as well. Fruits like strawberries and kiwis are well suited for this slicer as they are more delicate fruits. The cutting wires are constructed from stainless steel to ensure their durability. And of course no slicing arsenal would be complete without an onion slicer. Stop spending your prep time when slicing onions and let a tool do it for you. This is especially useful if you are sensitive to onions.

A pastry mat is another addition that no kitchen should be without. The non-stick mat from World Cuisine allows for the baker to not use flour and the bottom of the mat is slip resistant to keep it in place while you roll out your dough. The mat can double for candy makers when sugar and chocolate is being used as the non-stick surface lends itself to easy removal of the prep ingredients. The mat is easy to clean and highly durable providing years of use and enjoyment.

Potato Slicer: Things You Must Know

potato chip slicer

Potato chip slicer is must in every western kitchen. Potato chip is for snack and with proper cooking method it is good for people who care about diet. Do not neglect knowledge when you want to buy potato chip slicer, it is cheap but it is worth to buy a good one. I found a good article in eHow.Com about potato slicer, potato chip slicer, etc; hopefully it is useful for you:

Note: Info about ripple potato slicer, spiral potato slicer, and commercial potato slicer is available in this blog, or if not search it using Google!

'Potato Slicer
A potato slicer gives you thick circular slices that are perfect for scalloped potatoes. These slicers come in manual or electric models. The hand slicer, which average $10 and up and can be purchased at most major department stores, sits on the counter top. The potato is placed inside and the top, which has sharp blades or wire, closes and slices the potato. The electric tabletop machine, which will cost anywhere from $65 to $380, is used mainly for commercial purposes. It has a fast rotating blade that slices the potato as it is being pushed through. Potato slicers can be ordered online from manufacturers such as Nemco and Chefs.

Potato Peeler
The most common potato peeler is the hand peeler, which has a handle and two sharp blades that cut the skin off the potato. These hand peelers cost only a few dollars and can be purchased at any major department store. Electric commercial peelers can peel a potato in five to eight seconds. These will run $50 and up and can be ordered online from Chefs, Nemco or Sears.

Potato Chip Cutter
Potato chip cutters are purchased mostly by businesses that make large quantities of potato chips. These are either counter top or freestanding electric machines. The potato is placed into a large hole in the side of the machine and is shoved through and thinly sliced, shooting the slices back out the opposite side of the machine. Potato slicers and potato chip cutters are different, since the slicer cuts them thick and the potato chip slicer cuts them paper thin. For people who want to make their own potato chips at home, the slicer will work, but it will be difficult to fry them as crispy as a regular potato chip. They can also be sliced thin by hand; be extra careful not to cut yourself. Potato chip cutters can be purchased at any kitchen specialty store or online starting at $65.

French Fry Cutter
The french fry cutter is used to cut the potato in thick or thin strips to bake or fry. The manual french fry cutter has a large handle to cut the potato into strips. Electric machines cut the potato in strips to make french fries in large quantities. Depending on which one you need, the prices will range from $59.99 on into the hundreds. Chefs, Nemco and Bunn-o-matic from Bunn are just a few of the manufacturers that offer online purchasing.

Potato Shredder
The most common shredder is your average food processor. There is also the bladed hand plate that is held while the potato is shredded by hand. This is can be time- consuming. Commercial machines shred the potato automatically. Food processors can be purchased at most major department stores such as Walmart and Target and start at around $30. GE, Oster and Bosch all make food processors. Commercial food processors/shredders can be bought at kitchen specialty stores or ordered online; prices range well into the hundreds for these types.

All-In-One Cutter
For the average potato lover who cooks at home and does not need fancy machines, there is an all-in-one model that cuts, chops and slices the potato. This comes with different blades that can be changed depending on how the potato needs to be cut (chopped or sliced). These can be purchased at stores such as Walmart, Target or any kitchen specialty store and will cost around $15 to $30.'

Homemade Potato Chips Recipe (Potato Chip Slicer)

potato chip slicer

Potato chip slicer would not mean much if you do not have good potato chip recipe. Potato chips is a must Western snack. Kids and adult alike like it and mums know that they would not face rejection whenever they serve potato chips. With proper preparation, potato chips should be good for your health. Much about potato chip slicer have been written here, and today I bring to you Homemade Potato Chips Recipe:

How to Make Homemade Potato Chips Recipe
By Shelly Hill

If you are tired of paying high prices for store bought potato chips and would like to start making your own at home, I think you will enjoy trying out this easy recipe.

Along with the listed ingredients, you will need a deep fryer with a deep frying basket, 6 paper towels, a large bowl, a large plate and finally, an airtight plastic storage container.

Classic Homemade Potato Chips Recipe

4-6 white potatoes
water
vegetable oil (for deep frying)
salt

Wash and scrub the skins of your potatoes using a vegetable brush to loosen any debris. Remove skins from potatoes using a paring knife or vegetable peeler. Using a paring knife, cut thin round or oval slices. Cut out and remove any bad spots. Fill a large bowl with cold tap water and soak your slices in the water for 30 minutes. Remove slices from water and pat dry with paper towels.

Turn your deep fryer on and set the temperature at 350 degrees. When the oil is hot and has reached the desired temperature, place a handful of slices into the frying basket and drop down into the oil. Deep fry your slices until they are crisp and lightly browned. This process usually takes 2-4 minutes. Remove basket from hot oil and let it drain over the deep fryer for 2-3 minutes. Line a large plate or platter with 3 thick paper towels. Pour the chips onto the plate and use a separate paper towel to blot off any excess oil. Season with salt if desired.

Optional: If you like your potato chips seasoned with Old Bay, place some Old Bay Spice in an old salt shaker. Shake the desired amount on the chips. Wait 1 minute, flip the chips over and season the other side.

Storage: Once the chips have cooled, place them in an airtight plastic container. If you own a plastic cookie canister, this will work well for storing them. If properly stored, they should last several weeks.

Potato Chip Slicer: Videos

potato chip slicer

Potato chip slicer videos. I think the first video below is about an introduction to a new product. Its looks like somebody just invented a unique potato chip slicer. The potato chip slicer can produce spiral potato chips (and spiral carrot, etc).

The inventor must be a great person but I have to apologize in advance. From my brief review of the video, I see that the potato chip slicer in the video is not easy to use and the design will not appeal to many people. Seems like the slicer has no rubber feet so it goes here and there when one uses it. About the design, I do not think women would like it.

The above potato chip slicer is not much different to the one introduced below (it is in Spanish). They basically a same thing. Both potato chip slicers are new ideas. Maybe we have to wait for awhile, give the inventor some time and the market will be flooded by an improved version of this kind of potato chip slicer.
